We need to reduce global energy use and increase the percentage that comes from renewable energy. Many governments have responded to this need by subsidising the burning of trees for power. Scientists, academics, NGOs, economists and health experts all agree that such energy can be worse for the climate than burning coal, expensive and harmful to human health.
Fern is helping coordinate the individuals and organisations calling for an end to EU subsidies for biomass and a socially and environmentally friendly EU climate and energy policy.
